Our Approach to AI — and How to Protect Your Information
At Murphy & Berglund, PLLC, we monitor developments in artificial intelligence carefully. We do not use generative AI to draft client legal documents. Our legal work is guided by professional judgment and the facts and law applicable to each matter.
A Word of Caution: Your Own Use of AI
Public or personal-use AI tools — including widely used services such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and similar tools — may retain, process, or reuse information you enter, depending on the product, account, settings, and current terms. You should not assume that information entered into these tools will remain confidential. Paying for a personal subscription does not, by itself, create attorney-client privilege or guarantee confidentiality. When you use one of these tools on your own, your exchange is not a confidential communication with this firm.
Entering communications, documents, or advice from the firm into an outside AI tool may put confidentiality or privilege protections at risk. Because the effect can depend on the circumstances and the tool involved, you should not enter information about your legal matter into a public or personal-use AI tool.
To protect your information, please do not:
- Upload or enter documents, attorney communications, financial records, names, facts, questions, or other information related to your matter into a public or personal-use AI tool.
- Ask an AI tool to analyze your matter or draft or revise messages, letters, filings, or other materials related to it.
Removing names is not necessarily enough to protect your information. Details such as dates, places, amounts, or the circumstances of your situation may still identify you or your matter when combined. Please do not enter information about your matter into these tools in any form.
Instead, contact us directly by phone, email, or through your usual point of contact. If you have already used an AI tool in connection with your matter, tell your attorney promptly so we can assess any potential impact and advise you on next steps.
Use Caution with AI-Generated Legal Information
AI-generated legal information can be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. A tool may produce nonexistent citations, misstate Florida or federal law, or present an unsupported answer with confidence. Its output should not be treated as legal advice or verified legal research.
Reviewing lengthy AI-generated material may require additional time because the information, citations, and legal conclusions may first need to be independently checked. That can increase the time and cost required to answer a question that could often be addressed more directly. For the most efficient response, send your question in your own words whenever possible.
We can only recommend or advance positions supported by the facts and applicable law.
